What actually is insomnia?

Insomnia is a sleep disorder which plagues a large percentage of the population throughout their lives. Its most common symptoms is the difficulty to sleep at night, or even, inadequate rest during sleeping hours, as a result of said disorder. There are various several levels of insomnia, as in any disease, but it is essential to treat them, as sleep is a necessity for the well-being of one’s body, and a person who does not rest will eventually begin to feel ever increasingly negative symptoms in his/her body and energy.


What are the main causes of insomnia? 

The causes of insomnia can be very varied, and furthermore, may be caused by other types of disorders, but the most common are those specified below:

  • Psychiatric illnesses, which may be anxiety or depression.
  • Sleeping more hours than is necessary during the day.
  • Excessive intake of caffeine, theine, alcohol etc.
  • Sedentary lifestyle.
  • High sports activity intensity just prior going to sleep.
  • Works combining night and day shifts.
  • Diseases in which one has symptoms of shortness of breath.
  • Certain medicines may have side effects affecting sleep.


How do we use saffron as a homemade remedy for curing insomnia? 

Saffron has a number of aromatic substances, which have a sedative effect, reason why it helps the body to relax stimulating drowsiness and rest. This substance that helps one’s  body to relax is known as crocetin, which is found in saffron.

Natural remedies are always a good alternative, as they provide many positive effects, that’s why we’re bringing you a homemade recipe to use during periods of insomnia.

Making our homemade recipe is very simple as all one needs is adding a couple saffron strands into a glass of cold water. Then bringing the mixture to its boiling point, and then leave to stand for 5-7 minutes, and strain so that the strands do not remain in the glass and it is now ready for drinking.

Remember that it is not recommended to go overboard with the saffron, reason why 1 or 2 cups a day is more than enough to notice its effect.

This is a disorder which plagues a large percentage of the population nowadays, and in many cases, is just temporary, due to the lifestyles one leads, reason why it is important first,   to use natural remedies.
