Saffron Torrijas Recipe

A meal is not the same without a good dessert. Three chocolate cake or blueberry pies, fruit salads, Tiramisu, biscuit cake, sweets… There are many types of desserts, but the classic is continuing to gain ground. On this occasion, we’re bringing you a modern Torrijas (Spanish-style French Toast) which includes a very aromatic spice: saffron.

With a view to making this recipe for 4 people, you’ll need the following ingredients:

4 slices of day-old bread

4 egg yolks

150 g sugar

250 ml cream

250 ml milk

1 g saffron

Icing sugar

If we have these ingredients on hand ready to use, we can start on our recipe:

  1. The first step is to heat the milk with the cream until boiling. When it is boiling, the time is right to add the saffron. Seconds later, take the pan off the heat and leave to infuse for 2 minutes.

2.The second step is to beat the egg yolks with the sugar, in a bowl. When combined, add the milk and beat again.

  1. Then, place the previously cut bread in a dish and gradually add the saffron milk until the bread slices are completely soaked. Leave to stand for one hour.
  2. After the time that it is left standing, drain the slices and then fry in a frying pan with a bit of oil, enough so that the bread does not burn.

5.The last step is to serve the bread slices and dust with icing sugar. And voila! Your Torrijas (Spanish-style French Toast) are already finished and are the best tasting slices.

When decorating or experimenting with the products you can select the ones you find appropriate and can add chocolate or strawberries to the mix. Your imagination is the limit!
